1. Ask!
Ask those colleagues that you feel will benefit from PRIM&R membership. Begin the conversation by asking if they are aware of the organization and what it provides. Tailor your message to your subject. For instance, if you are talking to a novice colleague, stress how PRIM&R resources like the Mentoring Program will help them build their skills and knowledge base.2. Be Enthusiastic.
Tell potential new members how PRIM&R benefits you. Relating this positive experience in personal terms builds trust and provides context that will help motivate a prospective member to join.
3. Know PRIM&R’s Products and Services.
Describe the benefits that PRIM&R offers to its members such as professional publications, educational program discounts, an online career center and networking opportunities. Point out that the value of the many benefits PRIM&R members receive far exceeds the actual cost of membership.
4. Provide information to your colleague that facilitates the membership application process.
Present to your colleague an application form (make sure your name is on it so you get credit!), PRIM&R’s web address and PRIM&R’s contact information.
5. Follow up.
Check with prospective members and see if they've mailed in their applications or joined online. Offer to mail their application in for them if they haven’t already.
6. Encourage Involvement.
Remind your colleagues that they get the maximum return on their investment by participating in PRIM&R events, programs, and meetings. Reinforce the importance of networking with fellow professionals to gain fresh ideas about how to deal with common challenges and take advantage of career opportunities.
7. Express appreciation for supporting PRIM&R.
Send an e-mail or handwritten note to thank your colleagues for considering PRIM&R membership.
8. Don’t forget!
Remember to tell your colleague to list your name as the referral so you can receive your reward(s).
