    About AER16:

The AER Conference is widely acknowledged as the premier event for those in the field of human subjects protections, attracting more than 2,500 participants representing the variety of operational perspectives both domestically and internationally in 2015. This year’s meeting has been designed to reflect on and respond to the changes in research and their implications for regulatory and ethical oversight.

    This year’s conference includes:

    • Three keynote speakers, including two already confirmed: Patricia Furlong, founding president and CEO of Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, the largest nonprofit organization in the United States solely focused on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and Mary L. Gray, PhD, senior researcher at Microsoft Research; a fellow at Harvard University’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society; and associate professor of the Media School, with affiliations in American studies, anthropology, and gender studies at Indiana University.
    • Thirteen high-level plenary sessions on timely and hot topics in the field, a plenary series highlighting this year’s outstanding work from the Poster Presentation Program that discusses innovations in human subjects protections and empirical research, and
    • One hundred and twenty five breakout sessions on topics related to the federal regulations, IRB operations, HRPP leadership and oversight, legal issues, vulnerable populations, research conducted digitally, global research, biobanking, quality assurance/quality improvement, social, behavioral, and educational research, and much more.
    • Our uniqueDialogue with the Feds conference tracks. These tracks include discussion and question and answer sessions with representatives from key federal agencies, including OHRP, the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues, SACHRP, and the FDA, and allow attendees the opportunities to get answers to their most pressing regulatory questions, right from the source.

Additionally, if a new Common Rule is finalized by November, we have time set aside in the conference agenda to feature sessions which discuss the new rule.
