SBER21 and AER21

Each fall, PRIM&R hosts its Advancing Ethical Research (AER) Conference, which is geared toward those working in human subjects protections, research ethics, and oversight. This event brings together 2,500 professionals from public and private institutions, the federal government, industry, and academia, to learn, deconstruct, discuss, and debate, and to network with colleagues in the field. And, biennially, we offer the Social, Behavioral, and Educational Research (SBER) Conference in conjunction with the AER Conference—a one day event geared specifically to those reviewing and overseeing social/behavioral research.

In 2021, PRIM&R will offer the SBER and AER Conferences in a fully virtual format. This online event will take place over four days during a single week:

  • November 16: SBER21
  • November 16: AER21 Preconference Programs
  • November 17-19: AER21

Though the availability of a COVID-19 vaccine makes us incredibly hopeful that we will be able to return to in-person events again soon, there is still uncertainty around when it will be safe to gather in large groups. From audience surveys, we found that many of you were not confident about traveling this fall, may have budget constraints for travel, and/or are hesitant around the vaccine rollout and new variant strains.

Our priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of our community and offer an excellent conference experience while giving you plenty of time make budget decisions. This year’s AER Conference will include three days of keynote, panels, and breakout sessions, afternoon networking sessions, engagement tools that will allow for maximum interaction among attendees, and opportunities to watch content live and on demand as busy schedules allow. On November 16, we’ll offer our SBER Conference, as well as a variety of topic-specific half-day preconference programs for in-depth learning and discussion with your peers.

Registration will open and conference agendas will be available by June 10.

Call for Session Proposal Program

PRIM&R's AER\SBER21 Call for Conference Session Proposals Program allows for the submission of session ideas from our community. Community input ensures the Conference Planning Committees consider a broad and rich spectrum of topics and speakers.

The AER-SBER21 Call for Session Proposals Program closed on February 5, 2021. Notifications will be sent by June 11, 2021. Review the Call for Session Proposals Program guidelines here. This document includes information on session types, proposal requirements, terms and conditions, frequently asked questions and more.

If you have questions about the submission process, contact Ashley Savannah, Conference Manager.

Call for Poster Abstracts

The 2021 event will include a virtual poster gallery and interaction with poster authors.

If your institution has an innovative program related to the successful work of HRPPs/IRBs, or if you are conducting empirical research on or conceptual analyses of topics or questions relevant to human subjects research, consider participating in the AER21 Poster Presentation Program. Submissions are now open and will remain open until April 26. Contact Clare Ladd with questions.

Supporter and Exhibitor Program

The event will include a virtual exhibit hall/interaction with our vendors. Information on the Supporter and Exhibitor Program will be online by March 2021. Contact Mariellen Morris with questions.
