PRIM&R Overview

Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R) advances the highest ethical standards in the conduct of biomedical, behavioral, and social science research. We accomplish this mission through education, membership services, professional certification, and public policy initiatives.

We’ve highlighted some of PRIM&R’s newest and most popular offerings below:

PRIM&R On Demand

Introducing PRIM&R On Demand, the new home for flexible group learning opportunities! PRIM&R On Demand programs include live and recorded workshops. Choose whichever works best for you.

PRIM&R On Demand live workshops (formerly At Your Doorstep) are virtual programs taught by expert PRIM&R faculty and customized to the needs of your institution. Courses include Introduction to the IRB (formerly IRB 101), Responsible Conduct of Research: Concepts and Cases, Essentials of IACUC Administration, and more.

Recorded workshops that were originally offered at PRIM&R conferences and which have been optimized for group viewing, including built-in breaks and opportunities to discuss with colleagues. Groups can view them together, or everyone on the team can watch separately on their own devices.

Research Ethics Snapshots

A new collection of case studies, called Research Ethics Snapshots, are available in PRIM&R’s Knowledge Center, with more to come. These case studies will be available in a variety of formats to suit your learning style and needs; these early releases can be viewed as downloadable pdfs or as Rise modules in our LMS. New cases, topics, and formats will be available next year and more added to this resource on an ongoing basis. Take a special sneak peek at these resources in the Knowledge Center now before they become members-only in 2022.

Online Community

Join the PRIM&R Online Community! Engage with other research ethics and oversight professionals on this central platform which hosts the free IRB Forum and members-only IACUC Channel, SBER Network, and Resource Library, which is an evergreen collection of community-submitted workplace tools such as SOPs, templates, guidance documents, and more. 

Membership

With a supportive membership community of nearly 4,000 individuals from more than 1,000 institutions located in more than 40 countries, PRIM&R membership can help you learn, grow, and connect with others furthering the advancement of ethical research.

Our members include those involved in every aspect of biomedical, behavioral, and social science research, and come from public and private institutions, the federal government, academia, and industry. PRIM&R members gain the support of a community, educational resources in the online Knowledge Center, and discounts on both PRIM&R offerings and select external events.

Online Learning

Online learning enables users to take advantage of PRIM&R’s consistent, high-quality educational programming from anywhere. The vast array of online learning options, including our archive of webinars as well as podcasts, online courses, and more allow users to select the offering that would suit their learning style, time available, and budget (including $0).

Certificate Program

For those who are new to research protections and are not yet eligible to sit for the CIP exam, or those whose professional role extends beyond research ethics and oversight, PRIM&R offers a Certificate in the Foundations of Animal Care and Use that allows you to demonstrate your commitment to growing within the field. The requirements to obtain the certificate are flexible—the IACUC Conference fulfills a core requirement!—and enrollment in the program is free for members.
