The Top 7 Tips for 2007: What Every IRB Should Know addressed some of the most frequently vexing issues facing IRB professionals and provided in-depth information and concrete strategies for enhancing IRB Operations. Examples of best practices were given, and participants gained insights into areas in which augmentation of their policies and procedures are needed.

Mark Barnes, JD, LLM
Mark Barnes, a partner at Ropes & Gray, has practiced and taught law and has administered government programs in the healthcare field for the past 20 years. He is recognized as one of the leading attorneys in the fields of research compliance, the practice and ethics of clinical trials, and medical privacy. Mr. Barnes represents medical schools, hospitals, and major pharmaceutical companies in matters related to scientific research, stem cell and genetic research, research grants, clinical trials, Medicare reimbursement, and medical privacy.

Jeffrey Cohen, PhD, CIP
Dr. Jeffrey Cohen currently serves as President of HRP Associates, Inc., a firm engaged in training and consulting in human research protections. Previously, Dr. Cohen served for two years as Associate Dean, Responsible Conduct of Research at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Prior to his service at Weill Medical College, Dr. Cohen served as Director, Division of Education and Development in the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) in the United States Department of Health and Human Services for four years. At OHRP, Dr. Cohen was responsible for their human subjects education program. This included coordination of a national program of educational workshops, the development and dissemination of educational materials, making presentations and conducting training sessions for institutions and professional organizations, and the development of online training materials.
